About Acorn Lodge
Acorn Lodge is owned by Phil, Ali and Lola (the actual boss!). We bought the guest house in 2004 after Phil was made redundant from his IT Customer Service Manager’s job with NCR. Ali was Head of Psychology at a local school and also does a bit of Life Coaching (www.positivelymadyorkshire.co.uk).
Phil is mainly front of house with his excellent hospitality skills and customer service. Ali is more of Manuel, hiding in the background! Lola can often be found waitressing at the weekends, or selling her lemonade and biscuits from the car park. She is definitely a budding entrepreneur!
We have fully refurbished Acorn Lodge, and also built our own accommodation in the old Coach House at the rear of the building. We are proud to provide a warm welcome, comfortable and stylish rooms with little extra touches. Our location is perfectly placed for walking into town or the conference centre, yet in a lovely quiet residential street.
Phil was born in Newcastle and then spent his early years down south. He returned to the North in his teens and played drums in his parent’s cabaret act. Hospitality is in his blood, as his parents also ran hotels and restaurants, as did his brother.
Ali taught Psychology for 20 years and gave up to help Phil full time in the guest house and keep him in check! Ali also has two older children and we love spending time with our three, and possibly more the rate they are going, granddaughters who often make an appearance to help check guests in.
When we get chance, we get out to sample the delights of the many local restaurants and cafes, getting out in the stunning countryside on our doorstep, travelling when we can and skiing.
We look forward to welcoming guests old and new to our home here in Harrogate.
